Foundation Meeting

17/18 May 2018

In order to further develop Anthroposophical impulses within businesses, institutions and independent initiatives, and in order to enable a corresponding development of the Goetheanum-based School of Spiritual Science with its sections, it is of great importance to build up partnerships or mutually beneficial connections.

In the past few decades a large number of organisations have been founded and realities created in all walks of life – enterprises such as agricultural companies, banks, medicine manufacturers, institutions such as schools, social therapeutic institutions etc. all of which demonstrate that Anthroposophical ideas and impulses are practical, fruitful and effective.  The number of these institutions and organisations has been growing by about 7-10% each year.  In 1923/24, 12,000 members of the General Anthroposophical Society faced a single figure number of organisations and institutions. However, today this figure is increasingly nearing the ratio of 1:1 – with more than 40,000 members of the General Anthroposophical Society.

From these considerations emerge such questions as:

  • How will these enterprises, organisations and individually active people form their connection to the ‘small Goetheanum’ in Dornach as the heart of the General Anthroposophical Society and the worldwide work of the School of Spiritual Science?  Can they and would they like to come together in a spirit of partnership to form an association that can co-carry this heart function of the Goetheanum and thereby also provide it with new impulses?
  • Can the reciprocal networking and collaboration amongst these enterprises, institutions and individually active people be fostered in the form of an international and ‘interdisciplinary’ association?
  • With respect to the School of Spiritual Science, what do enterprises, institutions and freelance individuals need with regard to their own Anthroposophically oriented  progress, as well as towards the fostering of their  next generation successors?
  • How can we, as co-workers in the ‘large’ (worldwide) Goetheanum, perceive and act appropriately in a mutually beneficial way, in order to thereby co-carry and foster both the development of the enterprises, institutions and individually active people, as well as the work and development of the School of Spiritual Science?
  • Can we form this association in such a way that it is able to reach out beyond the Anthroposophical Movement and in so doing awaken interest in an impulse towards shaping the future of civil society in general?

The impulse towards the founding of such an association emerged out of these considerations.

On 17-18 May 2018 a World Goetheanum Association was founded in partnership, whose founders agreed on a common charter as a first step.
